The Sami in Norway have through generations been in close contact with nature and has always sworn to the tipi for protection against the harsh weather. This is also our inspiration when designing our lavvo which is a Norwegian version of a tipi. NorTent lavvo 6 is a very flexible 4 season tipi. And is the result of a desire to develop a light tent that can be used in every situation.
From family excursions to demanding walks in mountains and forests where comfort, flexibility, spaciousness and reliability are important factors. This tent like all our tents is made of what we think is one of the most hardwearing and robust lightweight fabric, silnylon. This super light is relatively expensive. FEATURES OF THE NORTENT LAVVO 6 EXPEDITION TIPI TENT
- We have removed the traditional smoke opening found in many tipis because it’s rarely needed. When you’re on an expedition, you want a tent that’s quick to set up. A campfire inside a tipi often results in a smoky and unpleasant experience before the fire settles—not exactly the idyllic atmosphere you imagined. Instead, we’ve replaced the smoke opening with a pipe hole for a wood-burning stove, offering warmth without the downsides of an open fire. The stove also serves as a reliable place to heat water and cook meals.
- At NORTENT, we prioritise lightweight yet robust gear. Paired with our titanium, foldable wood stove, this tipi provides a warm, safe, and durable shelter for all seasons, whether you’re deep in the forest or high in the mountains.
- Our tipi is lower than traditional designs to balance comfort with aerodynamics. With a height of 226 cm and a diameter of 426 cm, we’ve designed it with a steeper angle to direct wind up and around the tent, reducing pressure on the flysheet. Unlike standard tipis with 6 to 8 edges, ours features 20 reinforced fastening points along the flysheet, creating an aerodynamic cone shape that enhances stability in strong winds. The Silnylon flysheet ensures exceptional durability and weather resistance.
- For most conditions, additional guy lines aren’t needed, but we’ve included 10 guy-out points for extreme weather. The tipi can be securely anchored using our 20 stake points and flexible stake-out system. In harsh conditions, the sod skirt allows you to pile snow, dirt, or stones around the base for extra stability. However, never leave your NORTENT Lavvo 6 unattended during heavy snowfall—accumulating snow can damage the tent.
- Our materials are highly durable, waterproof, and lightweight. However, good ventilation is essential to prevent condensation. The Lavvo 6 features two low air vents and a high-mounted rear vent to promote airflow. On particularly humid days, the two entrances can be used to further regulate ventilation. Both doors include mosquito netting, allowing you to enjoy bug-free airflow on warm summer nights.
