Barents South Pole 2 Expedition tent is a light, solid and stable tunnel tent for 2 people. Perfect for 2 people who want to focus on weight, or for 1 person who wants extra comfort and space on an expedition.
Our smallest and lightest tent, designed especially for polar and winter conditions, has been created as an important part of the preparations for Karen Kyllesø’s goal of becoming the youngest ever to go alone to the South Pole. It has been tested, adjusted and contributed to her safe departure from the Union Glacier base in November 2024.
Although the South Pole 2 is optimal for winter trips, it works just as well in spring, summer and autumn. It has two entrances and the ability to open the entire front for good ventilation and easy access.
South Pole 2 is quick and easy to set up, where the inner tent and the outer tent are pitched at the same time. This both simplifies setup and prevents the inner tent from becoming damp in wet weather.
You might notice the South Pole 2 is a little heavier than some of its “competition”. This is due to the following factors:
- Tent fabric is a little thicker
- Poles are thicker/stroner at 11mm Vs 10mm on competition tents
- The tent is longer, taller, and wider than competitors
- It also comes with a snow skirt, so the tent is Polar ready without modifications (that are needed on competitors tents)
- It also has 3 extra pegs and extra guylines for extra wind stability

- Two identical poles and a reflector at the pole channels for easy setup
- Inner and outer tents can be assembled together, so that the inner tent does not get wet during assembly in rainfall
- 12 strong bar downs with interlaced reflex, reinforced bar down capes and storm mats
- 3 pcs. Open Air™ vents – two high and one on the side – ensure cross ventilation and minimize condensation.
- All vents can be closed completely and are equipped with mosquito netting
- Pockets in the inner tent for storing equipment
- Barents’ self-developed double pole cups with a release system that is easily operated even with winter gloves
- Reinforcements at the pole channels, dowel mounts and bar reinforcement points for increased wear resistance and longevity
- Yellow plug attachment at the rear indicates the starting point for setting up the tent

Outer tent: Nylon RipStop 40D with 5,000mm water column. High resistance to UV radiation and good stability under changing weather and temperature conditions.
Inner tent: Polyester RipStop 30D. Lightly water-repellent and breathable.
Bottom: Polyester RipStop 70D with 10,000mm water column. We have chosen to give this a higher water column and use a stronger material than in the outer fabric, as the bottom is exposed to extra wear and tear and moisture from the ground.
